all the dear

this past weekend was full of rejuvenation and the time and space to just be. i went down to colorado springs to be with the dunagan family and it was such a treat.

i got there, late friday night just in time for dinner. christie was whipping up homemade tortillas, for her yummy carne asada and guacamole tacos. tortilla chips were on the table along with salsa ( and if you know anything about me...you know my obsession with tortilla chips.) the conversation surrounding the meal was life giving, and made me full.

the next morning christie's lovely mom came into the bedroom and asked us if we wanted her to make "brunch." i was so excited to have a yummy breakfast meal whipped up by a mom..i haven't had one of those in a long time. before i headed upstairs to eat, i looked outside and saw two deer just chillin on the dirt. they saw me staring, looked over, and looked back out into the distance. they had no intention of moving. they were not to be bothered by anything, and i was the last thing of threat in their mind.

when i got upstairs, the spread of food was unbelievable. a broccoli and cheese quiche, a berry medley, steamed asparagus, toast, cheesy biscuits, and sparkling cider. i swore i was at a bed and breakfast. the beautiful arrangement in front of me was lovely. amidst the yummy food, brunch with the dunagan's was yet again, life giving and filling.

as the weekend went on, christie and i went to garden of the god's, the goodwill (where i picked up my wonderful "vintage" purse"), made meatball and veggie stew, then made fruit parfaits, and met up with the lovely mrs. megan jessup. on sunday we went to mate factor cafe, church and bj's brewery.

i haven't had a weekend like this in a long time. the type where you do a lot, but somehow come back to "normal life" completely rested. i have not experienced hospitality like what judy, rick, christie and even sophie the doggie showed me this weekend. i felt at home, and that doesn't just happen. you don't just have easy and meaningful, yet fun conversation just because. the dunagan's are dear to me, and i am ever so grateful for their kindness and hospitality.
